Another Trip!

Once again you are wondering where I have been for the past month.  We have been on a huge family vacation!!  We went up east and did tons of really cool stuff!!!  The highlights were Washington D.C. and Gettysburg, PA.   I can't even describe all we did and saw, and the amount of fun we had together!  We added several new states to our list of visited states, and nothing went wrong on our truck while we were gone!  We did add 3,700 miles to our truck and camper.  I'll stop rambling on and post a ton of pictures.  But before I stop, here's a list of the most interesting places we went:  Jamestowne, Williamsburg, Fredricksburg, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Vietnam memorial, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the place where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address, the Jefferson monument, the Capitol, Ford's Theater, the house where Lincoln died, the National Cemetary, Gen. Robert E. Lee's home, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the Pentagon, the Fredricksburg Battlefield, Monticello (Thomas Jefferson't home), Intercourse, PA, and the Library of Congress.  That's what I can remember at the moment!  Now, pictures!!

 The James River.

Map reading at Colonial Williamsburg.

 Collonial Williamsburg.

 Colonial Willialmsburg.

 Colonial Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg.  Harris and a large turkey leg.

 Colonial Williamsburg.  Random, but funny!

 Colonial Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg.  That is the carraige that the queen of England rode in when she visited Williamsburg.

 That's the original painting.

Jamestowne.  The church burned not long after its construction in 1607, and was rebuilt in 1640.  The only original part from 1607 was the steeple.

 The steeple.

 The original foundation.

A knight's tomb inside the church near the front.  The impressions you see used to have gold in them but it was stolen.

Almost all of the original fort is still there.  Some eroded into the James river.

A diagram of the whole fort.

The house where Stone-wall Jackson died.  (No, that's not his grave, just a small monument.)

 Looking in the window.

The bed and chair are original.  The room looks almost exactly like it did when Jackson died in it.

Me and Abraham Lincoln in Gettysburg.

 Harris and Lincoln.

 Hank and Lincoln.

 Hattie and Lincoln.

The National Cemetery and Lee's house in the background.

 The National Cemetery.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.  We got there just in time to see not only the changing of the guard, but also the laying of the wreath from Japan.

More map reading at the National Cemetery.

 The gardens near Lee's house.

 The side of Lee's house.

Lee was married under this archway.

 In DC!!

 More map reading.  Looks confusing!

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

The Washington Monument.  (Thank you random lady for the picture!)

 Montecello, Thomas Jefferson's home.

 The back of Monticello.

 The back again.

 The gardens.

Why can't we grow gardens like that?!

His grave.  A short walk behind the house.

 Pretty scenery.

 Car boredom.

 I like!

 So happy!!

 Yay!!

 Gettysburg battle field.

A look out used by the north during the Civil War.

 More battlefield.

A look out used by us, a 150 years later!  lol!

 And more battle field.

 Little Round Top!!!

The location of the bayonet charge ordered by Laurence Chamberlain.  (You have to look him up!!)

 Little Round Top.

 More Little Round Top.

Coming down from Little Round Top.

On Little Round Top looking down towards Devil's Den.

Taken from Little Round Top, again.  :)

 Sign reading.

A small memorial on a random boulder.

 Devil's Den.

Note the cannon hole in the barn.

A picture from immediately after the battle by the barn.

The exact spot where Lo Armistead was mortally wounded.   :'(

The train station that Lincoln arrived at when he came to Gettysburg to give his address.

The place where Lincoln gave the address.

 Sunset at Gettysburg.

 The Lincoln Monument.

The Reflection pool and the Washington Monument in the back ground.

 The Jefferson Monument.

 The Capitol.

Dad and his favorite president, Reagan.

 Mom was talking to Mumsy!

 In the Library of Congress.

Me, Harris, and the gun that John Wilkes Booth used to shoot Lincoln.

 The bed where Lincoln died.

The room where he died.  Everything is set up like it was at the time of his death.

We went all that way to get their picture with a John Deere tractor!  We could have done that at home!  Lol!

The Jefferson Monument.

Sorry the pictures aren't in order.  The computer chose to do them that way I guess!

Pictures courtesy of Hattie and Harlie with an occasional other person.

A really BIG thank-you to Mumsy for staying home and taking care of Mamaw and our animals.  You are a saint.

The pictures are not the best, I was just snapping them all the time and didn't worry about much else.
